“With tarot we begin to think symbolically. In the symbolic realm, things connect; tarot allows us to see those connections.”

Dr. Art Rosengarten

What is Tarot Integrated Therapy?

Tarot Integrated Therapy is exactly how it sounds! It is mental health therapy, traditionally referred to as “talk therapy”, that has Tarot cards and/or full Tarot Readings guiding the session. The difference between a traditional Tarot Reading and Integrated Therapy is the reader is a licensed Mental Health clinician utilizing their education and training to guide a session. While not all therapists might feel confident in the spirituality aspect of traditional Tarot Readings, many therapists can still utilize the projective aspect the cards can represent in a session.

Within the context of Tarot Integrated Therapy Services, LLC with Vanessa Wells, the use of Tarot and other Eastern practices such as Reiki and Astrology would be woven into the individual therapy services any licensed clinician would provide. The use of Tarot Readings can be likened to similar therapy approaches such as Christian Counseling, Existential therapy and other spirituality based practices. However, it does not always have to be spiritually based should a client not identify with the Pagan belief system that Tarot typically represents. In fact, Tarot Readings or Card Pulls during sessions can be utilized as projective tools during sessions to support clients understanding of their decision making habits, thought processes, and help challenge their perspectives.

If long-term individual therapy is not ideal, clients can engage in shorter term intervention such as Solutions-focused Brief Therapy** (SFBT) that involves a singular concern or goal that could utilize Tarot Readings as guided check-in services rather than traditional long-term individual therapy services. Since the sessions would be guided by Vanessa, the interpretation of Tarot Readings along with the specialized training of a licensed Mental Health clinician allow for a deeper level of exploration and application of evidence-based intervention to support the client. Additionally, if a client has a goal to process a singular issue or wants periodic check-ins to process a recent stressor, consultation services offered by Vanessa include one-time Tarot Readings and coaching support focused on collaborative problem solving.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” Carl Jung
